Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, but grew up in Mississippi and Georgia. I moved from Atlanta, Georgia to North Carolina in 2010 and moved to Holly Springs in November 2016.

Children and Ages?

Ethan, age 8 (9 in July) and Libby Jane, age 5 (6 in February)

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

Hmm… I’m not sure. There are plenty that people don’t know about me. I was a Mississippi state champion in karate and taught aerobics for 14 years. I was a Vice President for Junior League of Atlanta and love volunteering for meaningful causes. I don’t like to watch movies that make me cry. And I can’t use chopstix. 😉

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

I have a great partner in life in Seth Hamm, my husband. He compliments me well and is a great father. I also have excellent role models in my parents and in-laws, who are out of state, but find ways to stay involved and show support. But it truly does “take a village”. And our village is one I am humbled by and grateful for. Parenthood is easier because of my childrens’ teachers and other staff members at the schools my children attend or have attended. These individuals have an incredible impact and we have been blessed to have some excellent experiences. I’m also so thankful to my social, spiritual, and business networks. Some of these people have been a support to my children, while others were support to my husband and me. No matter whether my parenting has been directly or indirectly impacted by any of these people, they all inspire and empower me to be the best I can be. They help keep me focused on humor, personal growth, giving back, and balance. I believe that making time to focus on these keep me healthy, which in turn helps me to be the best parent I can be.

Favorite things to do with your kids?

Playing outside, going to the beach or mountains, or other vacations, and just spending quality time listening to them share. I’m always in awe when I sit back and let them lead the conversation. I love when they “teach” me how to do something, summarize a new book or share a drawing, talk with me about their school day, or show off a new skill. Those meaningful and simple, yet quality moments are probably my favorite times.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world?

Kindermusik of South Wake

I am the owner of and an educator for Kindermusik of South Wake. Kindermusik is an educational, fun, research-backed, music and movement curriculum for children ages birth through 6. It is trusted and true, having been linked directly to increased literacy and language skills and being proven to support the development of math skills, social and emotional awareness, and physical development. The classes are fun and engaging, while the curriculum has been developed with child development milestones in mind. Classes are also a great time to bond with your little one through learned relaxation, pretend play, object exploration, and more! Kindermusik of South Wake provides our families at-home materials such as music and activity downloads, video field trips, story downloads, and a lot more. Our families also benefit from optional parent social/educational opportunities through The Nurtured Nest. Kindermusik of South Wake offers magical birthday party celebrations and special events throughout the year. I am also involved as a member of the NWOTT A-Team, a Launch Holly Springs graduate and supporter, and a board member for The Nurtured Nest.

Kindermusik is also on Facebook and Instagram.

What does this community mean to you/How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

I am continually amazed at the passion of our people and their commitment to growth, small business, and generosity. I have been lucky to get to know many inspiring people and they never cease to push me to do better and be better. I’m talking about people like those involved with the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce, the Networking Women of the Triangle Holly Springs A-Team, Launch Holly Springs, and other community organizations. Through these groups, I have a network of people who genuinely care about me and what my business does for children. I have developed friends and colleagues in our community who are committed to the arts, education, special causes, and more. Those who are committed to running their businesses fairly, ethically, and kindly, and who have not lost the art of personal contact in this age of technology. These individuals remind me that through a world that is not always kind, fair, ethical, or personal, those qualities do exist. And they push me to be better. Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Apex, and the whole Raleigh area is a special place not only because of what we’re doing, but because of our committed, involved, kind, and determined people.
