Meet Caroline and Jessica of LBH Style | South Wake Raleigh Moms

Jun 3, 2019 | Meet A Mom

It’s a new month which means a new Meet-A-Mom spotlight! These moms and best friends met at church and as they say, the rest is history. Caroline and Jessica have two different personalities that lend themselves to different styles in their jewelry business, LBH Style. Caroline tends to love the classic look and Jessica is most drawn to a boho-like style. You will find that their earrings often marry the two styles with rich texture, natural elements, and an overall classy/chic look. Most of their earrings bring in some type of leather element, but they have started venturing out to some different textures as well! They hope to offer a variety of pieces for every woman because after-all, “earrings always fit.”

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

Caroline – My name is Caroline Shipman and I am co-owner of LBH Style. I am a Cary native! There are so few of us left but it has always been my home. I went to Meredith College for my undergrad in both Human and Mass Communication and shortly after getting married we moved to Holly Springs where we live with our three little boys.

Jessica – I am originally from Charleston, SC, spent some time in my early years of marriage on the west coast and then moved to the Raleigh area six years ago.

Children and Ages?

Caroline – I am an all BOY mom and absolutely love it. Zak and I have 3 sons, Will age 7, Pierce age 5 and Grey who is about to turn 3. Growing up in an all girl house it has certainly been an adventure, but one I wouldn’t trade for anything! I love getting the privilege and great responsibility of raising the next generation of men! It is certainly a weighty task.

Jessica – Titus- 10, Maeve- 7, Adaire-4 and Wells-2.  I have my hands and heart very full!!

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

Caroline – This is always a tough question, because frankly it’s usually all out there for me. What you see is what you get. I am an extreme extravert and love all things relational.  When people meet me they often think because I am a natural leader and planner that I would be organized. Nothing could be further from the truth. I’m like living with a clothes bomb. That said I have learned how to function in organized chaos which is a skill that every mom needs! We moms cannot do all things well and finding someone to come and help with the cleaning has been the best decision I could have ever made! There is no sense in constantly feeling like a housekeeping failure.

Jessica – Is this where I should share that I was on a jump roping team that performed at college basketball games?!!?! I digress, from the age of a little girl, I’ve always wanted to be a mom with 4 kids.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

Caroline – Honestly, my sister has been such a great gift to me in motherhood. When I first had Will she had already had her first and was most certainly a step ahead of me. The early years were very hard as I was adjusting to being a new mom and figuring out my new rhythm while personally struggling with postpartum, something I thought I would never deal with. That was a hard season, but she was right there to encourage, support, listen or simply come over and help me fold laundry. She was willing to get in the trenches with me and that meant the world.  I laugh because we have always said that between the two of us we could write a book on every new mom struggle out there! She went on to have all girls (4!) and I rounded off the family with all boys!

Jessica – Besides my husband who helps me endlessly with our kids, my mom has been my biggest cheerleader, encourager, and voice of reason.

Favorite things to do with your kids?

Caroline – Even though Grey Bear makes it a bit of a challenge because well, he’s a two year old, we still love to have family game nights where we make popcorn and just spend time together playing games around the kitchen table. With a house full of boys competition is always present!

Jessica – I love to explore a new trail, make pancakes on Saturday mornings, or eat pizza and watch a movie on a Saturday night.  The simple things end up being my favorite.. Also, when I can sneak away with a one on one date with a child, I LOVE those chances!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

A year and a half ago we launched a fun, creative outlet over on Instagram @okletsbehonest as a way to present the authentic, less than perfect side of motherhood while throwing a good daily dose of humor in the mix. Let’s be honest, if you can’t laugh about the struggles of potty training, you will likely find yourself in the fetal position. That continues to be such a fun passion of mine and out of that came what we call our accidental business!

As two fun loving blondes, we have always both loved big earrings but hated having to pay $30 for a single pair. One night we said, “I really think we can do this ourselves!” and as simple as that, LBH Style was born. Quickly our small dream blew up and we have been so thankful to see how the Lord has blessed our business in just a few short months. We are both hard workers with complementary skillsets that have certainly helped in our growth. We love making women feel beautiful and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds.

You can shop on our Etsy shop and follow along with our journey and new products at Instagram and Facebook.

What does this community mean to you/How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Caroline – Encouraging and connecting with other women and moms has been integral in the growth of both our social media presence as well as in our business. Without relationships none of this would ever have been possible. We live in a time where people are starved for connection which is why groups like this are so important and friendships can bloom.

Jessica – Our community has been cheerleaders from day one.  They have jumped on board, supported our business and shared it with their friends.  We have the sweetest clients and our bread and butter is right here in our own community.
