Sept 9, 2019 | Meet A Mom
We are thrilled to feature another local Raleigh mom this month, Meghan Carter. Meghan is a mom of 2 that recently launched her own kids party planning business, A Sense of Adventure Parties. Meghan’s parties have the cutest themes and would be the perfect addition to your little one’s next birthday, so be sure to check her out! Additionally, Meghan and her husband were foster parents, eventually adopting one of their foster children who is now their daughter. Read more of our great interview with Meghan below!
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I’m originally from Wendell, NC, born and raised. A few years ago I moved back here to raise my family in the same place I grew up. I graduated from North Carolina State University in 2011 with a degree in Business Administration.
Children and Ages?
My husband Scott and I have been married for 4 years and have two children, Eli who just turned 1 and Maddie who is 5 and just started Kindergarten.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
I have two that I’d like to recognize 🙂
My mom has been my rock since I became a mother. I never realized how hard it was being a mom until I became one, and it instantly opened my eyes to how amazing she is! She is always only a phone call away, my shoulder to cry on and comes running when I need a last minute babysitter.
I have a strong tribe of friends who are all fantastic mothers and who I look up to and get advice from when I have no clue what I’m doing with this gig called motherhood. They stepped in to provide love and support from the very beginning of me becoming a foster mom, and haven’t walked away since. I think it’s very important for every woman to have a support system of other mom’s who are walking through the same phase of life as you, and I’m very thankful for the friends God has given me. They are the greatest blessing to me!
Favorite things to do with your kids?
Our favorites things to do are going on walks, afternoon trips to Marbles, eating Tacos at El Senor in Knightdale and swimming at the pool!
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world?
I started A Sense of Adventure Parties this past April. We are a kids party planning business that provides different experiences to children of all ages and interests. We offer camping slumber party packages, and if you aren’t interested in slumber parties, we also have experiences including baking parties, science parties, spa parties and more. I get such fulfillment in seeing children light up with joy, and we love working with parents to help make their kiddo’s birthday the most unforgettable and special day!
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I have met so many other wonderful mama’s who are trying to do something they love while at the same time support their families, just like I am. I have loved the collaboration and networking between us and seeing how everyone supports each other and their business ventures. I use multiple different vendors for each of my parties/events and always prefer to use local small businesses.
