Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I am originally from the midwest but we moved to Philadelphia when I was in high school so I typically consider that home. My husband and I landed in Raleigh when we got married 13 years ago.
Children and Ages?
I have three creative and compassionate kids aged 9, 6, and 3.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
This is hard, I’m an open book. I’m pretty adventurous and there isn’t much I can’t or have never done, except…..whistle. It’s weird, I know, but I can’t whistle to save my life!
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
I have an invaluable group of girl friends who have held my hand every step of the way. We started out as a gourmet dinner group (TTG – Third Thursday Gourmet) and have evolved into so much more. Its a group of strong independent women who all have unique strengths. We collectively lift each other up and help each other through the hard times.
Favorite things to do with your kids?
This one is tough, we love to go out to eat (that has been hard this year), we love to ride bikes together, and we love to read together. Even my 9 year old will still read aloud with us every night.
Tell us more about your business!
I started a company called SchoolUp Wake about three years ago in which I help families navigate school choice in Wake County. It’s a little like being a realtor but for schools! It is an absolute joy to help reduce the stress of this choice for busy parents. There are just so many options out there from calendar options to magnets, charters, and private schools. I help navigate the whole system and get families settled in a school that is right for them.
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I have found a strong community among other local women owned businesses. Whether it has been clients who are willing to share the value of my service or business partners who have been willing to lift me up, many of my successes have been due to other women giving me a voice.
